“A youngster’s social development has a profound effect on his classroom progress.” The Pre-K program provides the children with numerous opportunities to work and play together. It provides a safe, social setting that allows the children to take turns, work out problems, and develop effective social skills. The benefits of learning to be a cooperative member of a group helps a child develop positive self-esteem and a feeling of competence. This can only lead to a successful school experience.
An ancient Chinese proverb states “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” The Pre-K program will be based upon this concept – the belief that children learn if they are allowed to be active participants in their own learning. The children will absorb information through the manipulation of materials, participation in various activities, having stories read to them, and participating in the creation of their own stories.
